ABOUT THE GOVERNOR
Gov. Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo started out with a Legal Management degree which he earned in 2007 from the Ateneo de Manila University. In 2012, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the same university and ranked 4th in the Bar Exams.
He then served as an Associate at the SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan legal firm, an Executive Assistant to a former Secretary of Defense, and a Supervising Legislative Officer of the late Representative Pedro P. Romualdo.
It was in 2013 when he first embarked on politics and became the youngest member of the House of Representatives. During his time in Congress, he authored several laws of great significance to the nation such as RA 10655 which repealed the crime of Premature Marriage; RA 10667 which is the Philippine Competition Act; RA 10962 that is the Gift Check Act of 2017; RA 10963 which is the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law; and RA 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery of 2018. In addition, he also drafted the Camiguin Tourism Development Act (RA 10907) and and the Northern Mindanao Medical Center Bed Capacity Enhancement Act (RA 10667).
He also authored notable bills, including HB No. 5989, the proposed Disaster Resilience Act; HB No. 8850, the proposed Bureau of Immigration Modernization Act; HB No. 8513, the proposed New Philippine Passport Act; HB No. 8698, the proposed Revised Warehouse Receipts Law of the Philippines; HB 9030, the proposed Philippine Transportation Safety Board Act; and HB 9269, which authorizes the online publication of laws for their effectiveness.
The young representative took the role of Assistant Majority Leader during the 16th Congress. While in the 17th Congress, he served as chairman of the Committee on Government Reorganization and the Committee on Good Government and Public Majority Leader as well as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.
On May 2022, he won the elections as the Provincial Governor of the Province of Camiguin.
